Radius XR

Creating the vision testing technology of the future

Wearable Healthcare Solution

The challenge

Radius XR is a digital vision company with a mission to transform the eye care industry. Historically, vision testing has presented significant challenges, such as high capital investments in equipment, increased staff-to-patient ratios, and the need for patients to be moved between exam lanes and equipment.

Radius approached CitrusBits to design and build an innovative vision and practice management platform, integrate it with the hardware in their proprietary Radius XR headset, and build in gold-standard vision diagnostics protocols.

They also wanted to create an immersive promotional and educational media library that could be tailored to each patient and configured by each practice. This library would automatically display unique content at an appropriate time during the exam experience.

The Comprehensive Checklist To Create A Telehealth App

The process

We began the Radius project with an extensive Discovery phase to align the business understanding and requirements. We ramped quickly to have a working knowledge of the vision diagnostic space. Through design-thinking exercises, we built out the user personas, features required, and did a comprehensive competitive benchmarking. We then workshopped an extensive information architecture for both the tablet and the web app — blueprints that would scale as the platform’s features expanded.

Through a rigorous Agile design sprint process, we crafted the user experience flows, low-fidelity wireframes, working prototypes, and then moved into rich visual designs. An early prototype of the Radius app had been created in light mode but we shifted to dark mode given the nature of the product. Once the tablet designs were ready, we shifted to designing out a custom media content library for Radius, where practices could create and upload their own videos for the ultimate personalized patient experience.

CitrusBits and Radius’ development teams worked hand-in-hand to integrate with the headset device technology, test calibration, and ensure accuracy of patient testing results. The multimodal exam app connected to the Radius XR headset provides real-time results. The platform integrates with EHR systems, and HIPAA and ADA compliance was paramount throughout the entire design and development process.
