An event app that builds communities

The challenge

The Nigerian market is ripe for technological innovation, with its tech-savvy, youthful population, rapid economic growth, and unmet digitization across various industries. Entrepreneurs who can navigate this landscape stand to benefit from a market that eager to embrace new solutions. When startup company, Nayachi, approached us to create an ambitious app concept, we were excited to help them with a digital solution in this burgeoning market.

Their vision? To design and develop an event management app where anyone can create, explore, coordinate, and promote events — whether public or private, paid or free — but with a twist. They wanted to include a marketplace to connect event organizers with vendors, such as DJs, venues, caterers, and others necessary to make events a success — thus contributing to the local economy and helping people create livelihoods.

The process

For this project, CitrusBits was tasked with brand development, identifying the strategy and feature mapping, app design and development, and creating a custom, web-based admin dashboard to manage all aspects of the Evenple business (i.e., user, vendor, and event organizer management).

We kicked off with Discovery workshops, where we determined the scope of the project, priorities, and features and functionality that would need to be designed in. Next, we created rough UX wireframes while also creating the brand development in parallel. We then created detailed visual designs, and handed off designs and assets to our development team as sprints were completed, working in Agile.

Our engineers implemented sophisticated media handling, GPS, Flutterwave payment integration, and many more advanced techniques into building the app.

The result

The result is a eye-catching, custom event creation and management app and platform, with fun, playful branding and a unique vendor marketplace for finding, scheduling and paying vendors for their services.

App features include: direct messaging between event organizers, attendees and vendors; the ability to have multiple profiles; the ability for users to create a custom invite, including changing colors, images, fonts, and messaging; and integrated maps and GPS functionality. We helped Evenple create a workflow to process event organizer and vendor payouts through Flutterwave payment integration, and the ability to monitor reporting and manage all aspects of their business through the custom admin panel.

The app launched in Nigeria, and the client hosted a kickoff event in December — booked through Evenple! — which was a resounding success. The app went live in time to take advantage of the activity during winter months, when it’s common for many people to return home to Nigeria for holidays and celebrations.
